In retirement I am thoroughly enjoying my role as a Girl Dad, both to my adult daughters and my elementary school aged granddaughters. Periodically I will engage with my adult daughters, in one on one, what I like to call Daddy Daughter Dates. My purpose is to learn of the challenges and success that they are encountering in their lives. My intention is to be a listening ear and a sounding board for their ideas and plans for the future. And when and if I am asked I will offer input or guidance.
As a grandfather, I enjoy this role so much, that I periodically serve as a substitute elementary school teacher, to engage with the peers of my granddaughters, to get a sense of the minds of the next generation of leaders. I am purposeful in each of my engagements to learn as well as to teach.
Each of these roles reflects my commitment, as a servant of Jesus Christ as my lord and savior, that I am blessed to be a blessing to others. My objective here is to be the type of person described in Psalm 1:2-3 NIV, “But those who delight in the way of the lord and who meditate on it day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaves do not whither, whatever they do prospers. ”
